The Twin
The Twin |
| Posted: Peter-James is seven months old. And he's in heaven. He's making sense of what happened in his life. Though we know immediately that things end tragically, author Dan Barbier starts the book with light humor, which segues into a sad tale of job loss, stress, depression, and ultimately (this is hardly a spoiler: he lets us know on the first page) infanticide. This short story is peppered with mistakes in punctuation, grammar, and word choice and badly in need of copywriting ; more so than most other self-published works I've read. Beyond the mechanics, this is a well-told story about an appalling crime. As social commentary, it's tragic. As art, there's nothing novel there - even the surprise twist at the end isn't surprising, and is certainly not gratifying. If the story-line intrigues you, then you should get THE TWIN - it's worth the price and the time involved in reading it. Otherwise, pass it up - you're not missing anything. |
